I know I am going to get slammed for this but, in some ways, it may explain why Treks don't get no respect. To be honest I don't quite know why, nor do I know if it was justified, but back when Treks first appeared those of us who thought of ourselves as somehow "elite" because we raced and knew everything (Ha!) used to call those early Treks "Dreks." For those of you unfamiliar with the term it means "Sh*$#."
They definitely had NO cache (Mojo seems to be the current term). Even if the bike was built by one of the KOF's but who had a reputation for building "touring" bikes....that just did not cut it. If it wasn't a Kellogg, Sachs, Serrotta, Marinoni, etc or of Italian (English, maybe a few French) pedigree, Forgetaboutit. Edward Albert Chappaqua, NY
