As I had mentioned earlier this week, I picked up a Lygie and now I've finally finished putting it together. Thanks, as always to the CR list at large, who generously supplied many parts and advice for this project. Thanks especially to Steve Willis at the Bike Stand for prep work.
There are a few oddities about this bike. In it's early days, Lygie had many French touches, and this one follow French custom by being built of Reynolds 531. Given the graphics, I'm guessing this is an early 70's bike. There were no brazeons, and it has one of the most unusual seat stay cap treatments I've seen. I originally thought the builder had merely crushed the stays and attached em ala Huffy, but it appears to me some sort of plug. Anyone recognize them?
The build was mostly Campy NR, after I realized I didn't have a full classic Campy bike in the stable after selling the Raleigh Pro. I hastened to rectify the situation lest I be drummed off the list. It was fun to use up many parts that had been in the bins for years, including my Campy pump clip! (At 65cm, none of my frame fit pumps would reach the seat cluster!)
I've only got one short ride in, but the bike is a winner. Racy, without being too twitchy. Reminds me most of my early 80's Colnago, alas long passed on.
I'm making some progress on Lygie research, and hope to post some more history soon. In the meantime, hope you enjoy the pics.
