Subject: [CR]Organized Eroica vintage bike tour

To any list member who might still be interested in attending the Eroica Gran Fondo in Italy in the fall as part of an organized tour. I had intended to distribute information at the Cirque but, for those of you who were there, it was just so hectic that there was no opportunity. Anyway, I would like to let you know the about some of the details of our tour. As I have mentioned the tour is run by the Due Cane tour company. ( http://www.duecanitours.com ) It will run from Sunday, September 25th to Monday October 3rd. During that time there will, of course, be lots of riding suited to all levels of ability. But beyond that, the tour will focus on Vintage bikes. We will visit the Girandengo e F. Coppi Museum, Coppi’s grave, and a privately owned vintage bike museum with over 90 bikes. (this museum is, by the way associated with an excellent winery were we will be treated to a wine tasting. We will also visit the shop of Irio Tomassini who, himself, is an avid vintage bike collector and, perhaps, a museum devoted to Gino Bartali. The week concludes, of course, with Saturday’s Eroica bike exhibition (it was huge last year) and Sunday’s Eroica ride which has various distances suited to differing levels of fitness. In conjunction with the Eroica we have arranged for a private meeting with Luciano Berruti. Some of you may be familiar with him....he is the guy with the handlebar mustache who appears on much of the promotional literature for the event. Mr. Berruti is an avid collector. He is the owner of Marcel Garand’s bike upon which he won the premier Tour de France among many other gems. We will get to see his collection and talk with him. I have been told that he is also always interested in buying and selling interesting bikes. Hopefully, although it is not definite yet, we will be able to attend one or more vintage swap meets taking place during the tour. Our base of operation will the hotel Bosco dell Aspina which can be viewed at the following site http://www.boscodellaspina.com . The cost of the week in Chianti runs $2950 and well worth it given the value of the Euro these days (but I am biased). If you are at all interested please go to the Due Cane web page and click on Tours, then go to “Vintage Cycling in Chianti.” Also, please contact me off list at ealbert@verizon.net if you have specific questions or concerns. By sometime next week I hope to have provided Dale with enough information to post this event in the Calendar section of the Classic Rendezvous site.
