Do you perhaps know over what time period this battle between 110 & 120 spacing took place? And when was the 120 spec was more or less firmly in place? Many thanks.

good evening all,
i've got two campagnolo track axles that i got as part of a lot of random parts, and they're different lengths.
both are 10mm in diameter, but one is 145mm long, and other is 155mm. the shorter one is stamped 'brev. inter. camp.' and the other one is stamped 'brev. campagnolo'
could anyone enlighten me as to why they're different?

Sure - before the track standard became 120 mm for the rear, it was 110 mm. You will sometimes see Record 65-P-110 or 68-P-110 spindles on eBay, for example..... Catalog #17 (1974) still mentions 110 rear Pista hubs as special request items, and lists the shorter (104 & 105 vs. 109 mm) BB spindles. You will also find 115 mm-spaced track frames every now and then - I suspect they were "splitting the difference" when built, just like 128 mm road frame spacing was fairly common when both 126 and 130 hubs were being manufactured and used....
