This may sound overly low tech, but here goes. When I went to basic training we spent a lot of time at the rifle range, after a range session we stripped our rifles down, every thing small enough went into a bucket of hot water and liquid soap, with some scrubbing they always came out clean, we rinsed them with hot water and finished drying then with a rag then a light coat of oil.
I still wash all my parts in the kitchen sink with the hottest water that will come out of the faucet and liquid soap, I scrub them with either a tooth brush or a larger brush with soft brissels, that's also how I clean my black powder firearms, yes the bride complains.
