Ray, Take a knife and insert on the closed end...move the pad just far enough to get the point of a sturdy pair of needle nose pliers in. Then pull the handles apart on the pliers so that the needle tips expand. The shoe will be forced out the open end. Can reverse the process to re-insert...just pad the closed end a bit to not mar it. I don't know if this a standard way to do it or not...I just stumbled onto
it a few years ago.
