The cheap solution is called a coaster brake.Morrow is the best,NewDeparture or Bendix close second.Drum brakes if you want to go English/Europian.These were the brakes designed for wood rims.Braking if friction or heat.Sence wood does not heat up---all the heat goes into the pads.Alum heats 5 times faster than steel,that's why alum rims stop better than steel. sam lingo,pleasanton tx
