I recently bought a DVD recorder/ VHS tape combo, which makes it more convenient to transfer VHS tape to DVD which hopefully deteriorates less with time. I've transfered several older cycling videos to DVD. Be aware that some newer VHS tapes are copyprotected, which prevents one from backing them up to DVD. Also, while I've been able to play the DVD's on the machine that recorded them, they won't play on the DVD drive of my laptop computer. There are several media types for DVD. I've recorded on DVD-RW media, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the laptop drive issue.

I am blessed to own a VHS tape of the finale of Tour of Flanders 1985. This is for sure the greatest Northern classic of the modern era and it will be of particular interest to US fans as Greg Lemond does a great ride. It has the lot, wind, continuous rain, sheer madness on the Koppenberg, the Muur at Gerardsbergen and best of all an amazing win by Eric Vanderaaden. The rain doesn't do anything for the picture quality and the commentary is in Flemish but heh you cant have everything. Do any of you techies know if it could be turned into a DVD so I could share it (at cost) with other lovers of the Ronde? By the way this is hard core stuff and is suitable only for addicts of all things Flemish. Not suitable for Masi buffs. Ray Green, Brighton, England
