Subject: [CR] oddball Campy Cranks

Hi Tam,

The cranks you came across are either Campy Victory or Triomphe from around 1988-1990. Campy made them in two different bolt circles, 116 bdc which had a 36 t inner ring capacity and also 144 mm. They also made an angled (bent) short lived MTB crank with similar design. The 116 bolt circle was nice for putting together a bike with lower gears with a 36 inner ring. I have a NOS long cage Victory changer from the same era.

Hope this helps,

I think I have a catalogue of the cranks somewhere, but that means digging through years of junk. so it won't be soon!

Uh, no, sorry.... Absolutely not. You're kidding us about that, right?? No such thing as a 144 BCD Victory or Triomphe. Victory and Triomphe are 116 BCD only, with a 35 minimum chainring size, and are from about 1984 - 1987. (Gran Sport had both a 116 "Touring" and a 144 version, briefly, but those don't look anything like Victory or Triomphe cranks). The cranks in question are el-cheapo melt-forged cranks, likely Ofmega or Gipiemme low-end ones. Someone was having a bit of fun, and stamped a Campy-type logo into them as a joke! Let's have a reality check here, folks..... End of rant. ;-) Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan
