Hello Jeff,

My vote is to keep the Cinelli unrestored and ride it and it enjoy as I described in my previous post. You (and I) have the best of both worlds, a beautiful example to be pampered and admired and another to ride and enjoy. I've found that once the beater has been waxed and polished with appropriate parts attached it becomes attractive in its own way. I own several bikes that meet this description :1960 Cinelli SC, '61Masi special,'56 Cinelli ModB and a 70s Walter Generati. My philo is to only restore a frame when its been poorly repainted or has sustained significant frame damage. I have a 1951 Cinelli that being restored by Brian Baylis (the frame had sustained damage to the top and downtubes, both tubes had to be replaced). I also have a 1946 that was mediocrely restored (without decals) in Italy back in the 70s. If I ever locate the correct graphics, I will probably have it restored as well.

I'm not completely anti-restoration, just in the cases where frame damage or a poor initial restoration had taken place. I do believe that bikes that are original and in decent shape should be preserved and enjoyed, particularly if a excellent example is already part of the collection. Just my thoughts.....

Regards, Dave

Thanks for uploading the photos Ray. Here is the link to the ratty late 60's early 70's SC frame, my restored approximately 1967 SC for comparison purposes, and my Falerio Masi (just for fun).
