<< Fred Delong Item No 270056671438. I met Fred at the Leicester World Champs in 1970 and what a great guy he was. >>
I met him on a number of occasions at NY bike shows in the 1970s and he was a very fine gentleman! Bright, inquisitive, a bit eccenmtric (aren't we all) and very generous with his time talking to a young newby!

I enjoy re-reading this book every few years. It's a fascinating insight to the fabulous athlete and the man himself. It is interesting while reading to try to "arm chair pyscho-analyze" his strength of personality and drive to win. He certainly had all that and more!
The story of his ill fated bicycle business is also intriguing. I think the book was done with support from Raleigh or a Raliegh Co. associate so there is not quite enough (in my opinion) about his other bike sponsors incl. Harry Quinn. But I guess Raliegh did the lion's share so that is to be expected. A great read! "Bid often and bid high!" :)
