Frank Kirk conceived the idea of the cast magnesium frame while working as a designer at the Ford car plant at Dagenham in the early 80s. Norris Lockley reports one unkind comment that it was based on a Ford Sierra fender. He first displayed it at the NY cycle show in May 1986, but little did the curious public know that the one on view was made from sand cast aluminium, as he had still not perfected the magnesium casting technique.
