Subject: [CR]Clear and tinted finishes over chrome

Hi crew, Thought it time I shared some knowkedge with the list in regards to finishes over chrome. In the process of refurbing my Magni, which has a blue tinted clear applied directly to a chrome frame, I found what appears as the ultimate solution to these problematic situations. What I found was a product called Glisten, you can read about it via this link http://www.por15.com/ The chrome itself gets an etching sufficient to key the chrome surface without damaging the chrome physically or aesthetically. The two pack clear Glisten is then sprayed over the chrome and eventually hardens to a point where it is totally bonded to the chrome - I saw a demonstration at the supplier where the clear over chrome was struck with a hammer and scratched with a nail with no effect upon the finish. If a tinted finish is wanted - there is a range of color tints which fortunately match the Magni blue. These are then applied and built up over the base clear. The logical outcome of this product is that a chrome frame can be painted with confidence knowing that as long as the chrome has a coating of clear, any coating can then be applied over the top of it and will stick as well as any finish over an undercoat - without fear of flaking or having to damage the chrome so as to provide a proper key for the paint. BTW, no relation to anyone selling the stuff. Greg Softley Coffs Harbour Australia
