Since we are going down this road , I would like to ask when did these appear? I remember retailing them in the 60s and sold thousands wholesale in the 70s when I worked for Wilson Bicycle Sales. Dennis Morgan, G.M. at Wilson , once pointed out that we were the original distributor for Pletscher and were rewarded every Christmas with what seemed like a 20 pound box of Swiss Chocolates (maybe that was only 10 lbs). I know the original company, Harry Wilson Sales agency was the Schwinn Distributor in Southern California for a long time before buying the dist here in northern California. I also used a Pletscher on my road bike but just lashed my touring gear down with twine , nothing like carrying an old Coleman sleeping bag weighed down with 5 gallons of water from a rainy night up the California coast. To back track about the recent thread about gearing, I doubt I used anything lower than a 40t x 24t at the time. That was a big improvement over my many trips over Hwy 9 thru the Santa Cruz mountains on my trusty "English Racer" (raise your hand if you remember that term!) with only 3 speeds and none of them that low, lightened by removing the fenders and chain guard . The hot setup was mounting the bars upside down (we obviously were not the first to think that up) Anyway thats far enough down memory road for this year..................................... Best of 07 to everyone even whoever it was who introduced himself as a list member from Kazakhstan (or some place in that neighborhood.)at this years L'EROICA
