Subject: [CR] Styles of painted finishes

I often see terms used to mean different finish effects. I'm NOT just referring to British vs American terminology. I see terms loosely and conflictingly used even between various American painters. And the number of terms used seem to be increasing.

Is there anywhere a set of clear, fixed, industry-wide, specific examples of the different types of finish such as:

Flambouyant Clear Coat Candied Candied metallic Metallic Pearl Pearl Metallic Lacquer

And, actually, Clear seems to be thrown on top of virtually everything... and as a distinct and additional finish. So, is it conceiveable that someone today would chose to NOT actually use a clear top-coat?

And, would this then result in a more dull finish overall? ... For sake of simplification here, lets assume there are absolutely No Decals! being applied.

~ Here is an example of what I think is the most beautiful blue Painted finish I've ever seen on ANY bike... Period. :

Where might this finish fit in among the descriptions - or, how would you explain to a stranger that you wanted THIS stunning finish? --- [By the way, this bike was painted by Brian Baylis...(BRAVO!)].

{Sigh,} I'm just so confused by it all.
