I would bet that enough people on this list would agree that Rivendell lugs are not hideous (that is, so ugly as to be repulsive), to support the conclusion that Brian's statement is clearly an extreme and exagerated opinion.
And unlike Phil, even if I agreed with Brian's opinion, I do not believe that Brian is in a better position than anybody on this list to decide what is pretty and what is ugly, be it in a lug or a Hawaiian shirt :)

it's Brian. And he's not alone. I hate the Riv lugs with the extended head tube
that can't be cut off. Hideous.
