Period-correct is ... the clamp-on downtube TA cage! ;) Looks good and classic, especially when there's clamp-on shifters and cable guides already.

Equally classic, though perhaps a little more French than Italian, is another TA cage, but the bar-mount kind, as in current eBay auction # 7225890677 :

I've got the downtube one on a '69 Raleigh Super Course (love it) and the bar one on a '72 Motobecane Super Mirage (love it). Both bikes are (you guessed it) Super, not just because of their classy and functional bottle cages, but they help.

If you're going for more modern, there are Minoura bar mount devices to hold the commodity bottle cage (or 2) of your choice.
