Well maybe I know just a little on this subject.
First of all it was not likely that campy was doing any of this (Maybe a little)(IMHO). I don't think tullio was into messing up any of his already beautiful product. Most of it was done by the frame builders or sometime tube manufactures, etc. Most of the time this was done by some subcontractor to add some extra "jewelery" to the bike. Also it was used as a contractual obligation to the team member for personalization, eg: see my RDV on wooljersey. It has his name all over it! It was also used as we all know just simply to get rid of weight.
Second since the advent of the computer there are many ways to do the so called pantographing. Those are.
EDM which is a cool form of acid etching (So to speak). To long to describe in this forum
CNC which almost everybody know about this process.
Acid etching the old school way. very messy and dangerous.
Old school Pantographing which some engravers have.
And then there is a hybrid of pantographing and using a digitized map to control the pantograph arm. This is the one that I have used.
If you are interested in doing some of the decorative process, get a nice digital camera and find someone who is very conversant in Autocad or some engineering software. You can figure out the rest.
