I've been very busy at work, so I haven't been able to keep-up with all the Legnano talk and questions. Topics have included seatpost diameter, tubing material, models available, serial number series, serial number locations, types of downtube graphics, absence of downtube graphics... this is by far the most concentrated attention Legnano has gotten for as far back as I can remember (well, that's actually only about 3 days, but you know what I mean).
So as a way of catching-up, here's a quick run-down of info on the bikes in my kitchen.
Bike #1 - 1971 "Roma Olimpiade Record Specialissima", original, silver with red bands and box lining, "6 Volte" sticker, chrome headlugs/crown/stayends/forkends, headtube badge is printed on a transparent sticker, parallelogram downtube logos are printed on a large transparent sticker, Reynolds 531, 27.2 seatpost diameter, boss behind seat lug for centerpull brake cable hanger, full Campagnolo Nuovo Record gruppo except for brakeset (Universal 61 centerpulls), TTT Record stem (no Legnano logo), Campagnolo "Record" hubs (no Legnano logo), binder bolt behind seat lug, serial number 30413 stamped vertically on left side of seattube just below seat lug.
Bike #2 - probably late-1960s or early-1970s "Gran Premio", original, flamboyant chartreuse with white bands (printed on transparent sticker) and red box lining, "6 Volte" water transfer, chrome headlugs/crown/stayends/forkends, headtube badge is printed on a transparent sticker, parallelogram downtube logos are printed on a large transparent sticker, 26.4 seatpost diameter, boss behind seat lug for centerpull brake cable hanger, Campagnolo Gran Sport derailleurs, Legnano cottered crank (third arm opposing crank), Universal 61 centerpulls, 2-piece binder bolt in lower front of un-slotted seat lug, serial number 30 stamped vertically on right side of seat lug, headlugs and headtube are 1-piece stamped, welded in back. This much-abused bike includes a decal from "British Bicycle Company - Kowloon, Hongkong".
Bike #3 - Probably 1960s probably "Roma...", bought as repainted frame & fork, originally flamboyant chartreuse, chrome headlugs/crown/stayends/forkends, typical bronze headtube badge, tubing unknown, 26.8 seatpost diameter, boss behind seat lug for centerpull brake cable hanger, 2-piece binder bolt in lower front of slotted seat lug, serial number FA7462 stamped horizontally on back of seat lug, separate headlugs and headtube.
Bike #4 - Probably early-1960s "Gran Premio", original, flamboyant blue with white bands and box lining, "6 Volte" water transfer, chrome headlugs/crown/stayends/forkends, typical bronze headtube badge, oval downtube logos are stenciled/painted, tubing unknown, 26.4 seatpost diameter, Campagnolo Gran Sport derailleurs, Legnano cottered crank (third arm opposing crank), Universal steel side-pull brake calipers, Ambrosio "Champion" stem (no Legnano logo, no Legnano logo), Campagnolo "Record" hubs (no Legnano logo), 3-piece binder bolt in lower front of un-slotted seat lug, serial number EX8431 stamped vertically on right side of seat lug, headlugs and headtube are 1-piece stamped, welded in back.
Quick wrap-up:
Universal 61's with braze-on rear cable hanger boss on 60s (Roma?), 60s Gran Premio, and '71 Roma O.R.S.
Serial numbers all over the board: 30, EX8431 (someone on the list has a near-relative of this number), FA7462, and 30413.
