Well, many professional athletes auction off personal gear to support charities they sponsor. I have no doubt Lance has done this sort of think to help fund his cancer foundation. I don't see a problem with this. And of course the items are theirs to do with as they will, regardless of their use of the proceeds.

Never mind the period-incorrect discussion, let me say that I really do not sympathise, for whatever that is worth, with whoever auctions out his own trophies and gear. A few years ago I was shown Cipollini's bikes, put up for auction sale by SAECO, for rediculously high amounts of money. Not quite in the same spirit I could point to other glorious bikes which are on sale around here with a tag price set up by the seller (this time, Michele Bartoli). This, I believe, is a more respectable way of collecting cash.
