First, throw the original cables, pads, and holders as far as your arm will send them. Then, reassemble with Kool Stop pads (I like the shorter Eagle Claws) and modern slick cables with lined housing. Drip some Tri Flo or similar on the eyebolt threads so that the pads will be tightenable. You will have one good set of brakes when this is all done. Squeaky? Toe the pads in as a LAST resort.
