Hi Peter, I do believe you are absolutely correct. I too, saw the mention in the back of some old Ron Kitchings, but I never made the connection. There are clear break-down schematics in my various catalogs - but, oddly, no illustrations actually showing the side pull calipers fitted with a QR. However, looking at the schematics now, since the openings in BOTH the caliper arms in fact do appear to be "squared" to receive the notched anchor bolt and for the small cable adjuster stud (which was the same piece used on the non-QR center-pull hangers),... there is absolutely no reason they could not ALSO have accepted the bulkier more elaborate adjuster set-up with QR - as you show on your caliper photo... which was indeed the mechanism substituted on the center-pull hangers to effect a QR. Really amazing that I've never actually seen that set-up before - or even considered the simple obvious logic of it. Thanks for the correction! DUH! Previously, I'd overlooked that the reference to a QR in the RonKit listings, etc. Personally all of my own 60s-70s bikes had either come with Mafac, Universal, or Weinmann center-pulls (until eventually Universal's Super 68 and finally Campy had crept onto to my rides) so I'd never even pondered this potential for the older Weinmann side-pulls, during all these decades. Appreciate the clarification and correction! Always something more to learn.
