John,

I had a few batches of precisely-cut 1/4" thick aluminum heatsink parts silver-soldered into aluminum power supply housings for military aircraft back in the '80's. Purpose was maximum heat transfer within the smallest possible package.

I left it up to a vendor who didn't bother us with the details of the operation, but the finished assembly was clean looking iir, and said to be strong.
