Ahoy !
Yes, I mean gauge size 14, 15, 16 etc. and not gauge as in measuring tool
I used a notch style spoke measuring tool (Park) on the galvanized spokes on the 1973 Raleigh Super Course Mk II. The spokes appear to be the OEM. I assumed these old galvanized are straight 14 gauge. Yet, when I measured, the 1.7 notch fit the mid-section of the spoke while the 1.8 notch fit the nipple end and the head end. No, I cannot feel the tell-tale double-butted bulge. Do old spokes stretch or swell? What gauge are these?
