There are four pair up there now and, as you say, the price is pricey. They were meant to protect your shoes, but I think that without the holes they would just keep the chill off my toes in Spring and Fall. Plus they look cool. We have the press to cut them and could probably sell them for $20.
Actually, I could do with a scan of them for a pattern. Otherwise I'll need to bid ;<(

I don't remember them, and didn't really know about them before I stumbled across these auctions on the weekend. ...what era are they from? ...what purpose do they serve?
I mean, I'm guessing that they're intended to protect shoes from the metal part of the clips (like the leather-covered clips), but do some people actually move their feet around enough when they pedal that this is a major issue? ...or does it keep wind off of shoelaces? How are they better than or different from leather-covered clips?
