<<I've heard of these frames being built with Campagnolo, Huret, Simplex, and Suntour dropouts - all in the early 1970's "fancy lug" version.>>

<<My sense is the many of these frames were built by different subcontractors which might explain the wide variety of details seen on these frames.>>

Jack,

I think you're on to something. I too have owned a Moto Grand Jubile, by all estimation it was from 1976. I based this on several factors: round headbadge, Huret fork tips, Suntour rear drop outs, and unpainted seat stay eyes. The headbadge changed from the early rectangle w/'M' logo to the more commonly recognized round w/'M' logo sometime in the mid 70's, I believe '74 or '75. It was perhaps as early as '73, but unlikely. This is about the same time Moto was transitioning the Grand Jubile from French parts to the more popular Japanese Suntour parts (derailleurs). I believe the bike was offered with either parts specifications during this transition period. In approximately '77 the Grand Jubile was only offered with Suntour derailleurs. Of course all dates are +/- a year or two.

Since I received my Moto Grand Jubile as a frameset only I kitted it out according to a catalog scan from this transition period: Grand Jubilee derailleurs, Weinmann center-pulls, Pivo stem/bars, Stronglight 49d crankset, Normandy HF sport hubs with Weinmann 27" rim, SR seat post, Atom 700 pedals, and Ideale Mod. 80 saddle. The frame was 531 DB main tubes w/seamed stays and forks.

Nice bikes, by the way.

Looking at the frame in question, I would say it is a Grand Jubile. I have never seen a G. Record in any color other than silver w/black, black w/red and yellow w/black. I have seen G. Jubile frames in both red w/black and silver w/red. I hope this helps...French bikes are as clear as mud. That's why I love them soooo much!

Take care,
