I like my pedal/clips. I don't think riding sans cleats makes much difference in most use and walking around in cleated shoes makes no sense if you actually use your bike as an actual daily transportation device. Last year I found myself in Italy using an old Peugeot with double-sided Lyotards with NO clips or straps and once I got used to it, it worked fine. I'd never buy pedals that could only be ridden with special shoes.

I think I'm in a distinct minority here though using a bike for frequent utilitarian transportation use rather than purely recreational riding. I have no speed/racing pretensions whatever, my bikes are to get me places and back home.
