Hi Bill:

Your response is exactly why I have included, in the CR rules, the following:

<< 9. Please do not send "Attaboy", "Me too" or joke messages. >>

Jokes are too often not understood by readers of e-mails. And that's among us here in the USA! Imagine how our jokes are perceived by the members from other lands who do not have English as their first language!

John Waner was being silly about a guy (Ted Ernst) who we all have a great deal of affection for and he thought we would all laugh. Obviously that was a mistake on his part...

This IS a lesson I hope to all CR members to read the darned rules and follow them!

John,

I have not written to the CR list to date, on a such a personal level - and have only spoke of bicycles themselves, and of earlier riders with a sense of respect - I have to say I am very offended by the language and content of your last email, and I do believe that an apology is in order.

First, any discription (true or otherwise) of a personal conversation or interaction that one has with another individual - without the expressed permission of the other - I believe to be entirely unacceptable, inappropriate, and off-topic.

Second, to describe any individual as "looking like a thug" is simply unconscinable.

Third, a characterization that describes the offer of items to you for sale, that are in turn are sold to another - as dishonest, is strictly the result of your interpetation, and again inappropriate in my belief.

Fourth, and finally, the posting of a picture of the person you are deriding in my belief is beyond inconscinable.

I say this out of respect for this individual, whom I have known since my earlier days in racing, and whom has always displayed the very best of character, and kindness.
