Subject: [CR]New Member and a question

Hi, I came across this list when seeking information about a bike I recently brought. Over the years I have brought and rebuilt for use several oldish steel framed bikes. Whilst not usually meeting this lists definition of classic's as the are not pre 1983, I have been able to buy a few nice bikes from the late eighties and early nineties cheaply and rebuild them for myself, friends and families often with updated components. The second-hand values of older bikes being often very cheap as most people seem to be obsessed with new aluminium framed bikes. I hate the idea of bikes becoming disposable consumer products built only to last a few years rather than machines that can be used for life as was the way with many bikes from the past. Usually these bikes are mountain bikes particularly steel framed bikes from Marin who seemed to me to make their frames with an attention to detail and quality lacking in many other modern manufacturers. their bikes from the period make excellent usable bikes. I have recent;y brought a 1992 British Eagle Touristique, which is pictured her http://www.flickr.com/photos/troutmask/370616632/ Most of the components on the bike are either seized from lack of use or worn out. However the frame and forks are in great condition (forks bent but fixable) so I am using the frame as the basis of a new touring bike for my own use. I have not been able to find out much information about this bike or the company that made it (now part of Falcon) any information would be appreciated.

all the best
