Not directly in reply to the posting, but speaking of fat tubulars, I just found this French news video piece about Francois Marie, proprietor of of FM Boyaux.

I only understood bits of it, but actually seeing him making the tires is very cool.

Morgan Fletcher posted a link to the site a few weeks ago, and I'm occasionally seeing where folks are starting to stock and sell his tires:

I don't think he uses a flame much, but he's surely a keeper of something--keeper of the latex maybe?
