My one and only connection to the rarefied realm of professional bicycle racing is this: my mother once babysat Steve Bauer in Fenwick, Ontario, Canada. She says he was quite a handful.

One of my holiday projects is to recover from her a copy of _Inside Out_, the National Film Board's documentary about Canada's most successful cyclist. As I recall, it's quite a depressing film, chronicling a singularly unsuccessful 1991 season.

If anyone does have contact with Steve, tell him that Jill Daw says hello.
