My 1937 Automoto http://www.classicrendezvous.com/France/bicycles/Automoto/Automoto_MAppel.htm came with what i believe were the original rims (well how certain can you be... were there double butted stainless spokes in 1937?). Alloy type which polished pretty nicely. I think, but am not sure, i can see remains of an "AVA" label on the rear one. The shape of the rims is certainly of that vintage. They are 700c, btw...
