I think I already mentioned that I worked as the first Southeastern USA Trek manufacturers rep in 1976-1979 + -

Bevil Hogg* or Tom French** would be the guys who knew. They ran the company in the early days.

I always thought that the head badge design was a stylized road, openning up into the distance....

* Bevil co-founded Kestrel, then became pres of Everest & Jennings (wheelchairs) Now CEO of Stereotaxis in St. Louis, who "design, manufacture and market an advanced cardiology instrument control system for use in a hospital's interventional surgical suite. The Stereotaxis System allows physicians to more effectively navigate proprietary catheters, guidewires and other delivery devices through the blood vessels."

** After Trek, Tom became president of Blackburn and then co-founded Kestrel. Not sure what happened to him after that... Dale Brown Greensboro, North Carolina USA

Hello Classic Cyclists:

A visitor to the Vintage-Trek site wondered about the derivation of the early TREK logo. (See logo here: <http://www.vintage-trek.com/#onthissite>). I thought some of you former Trek employees and current dealers might have a perspective on this.

Mr. Richard Burke, current Chairman and an originator of Trek, was recently asked about the logo. He recalls the sheaf of of grain is a reference to the (then) new Trek company growing in the midwest. However, he said he was not involved in the original selection of the logo and did not have any further info.

Anyone know more about the derivation? Did Bevel Hogg (the other company originator) pick it? Created by a marketing company? or a individual or group of early employees? Was there a contest?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Cheers, Skip Echert Vintage-Trek.com
