Some great finds out there but hey guys - get yourself organised! I have
an 'arrangement' with a couple of folk who earn their living picking up
scrap metal and items of 'interest' from roadside council clean - ups.
This is where several times a year local councils will send a truck
around the streets to pick up bulky goods that have been put on the
footpath (sidewalk) for collection. Depending on the suburb, you can
sometimes furnish a house just by picking through the offerings on one
block. Get on the right side of these salvage artists, induct them with
a series of names and brands and pay them cash....straight up..... for
their finds and you would be surprised to see what turns up. Last week I
scored a nice early Carlton and a Windsor for $120US for both all up.
I live halfway between two state capitals and have folk in each city
looking out for me. One guy who is great - he has radar eyes - has an
interest in another arena of cycling and I was able to steer him onto a
deal where he is able to fill a 40 foot container with bike stuff from
an old bike shop clean-out up in the mountains. Total cost to him - only
his time and container hire. I'm sincerely glad for him. Of course being
a deal maker, I have claim to any decent road gear that I wasnt able to
unearth when I hunted that shop down myself.
In the new world market economy this is a perfect example of
outsourcing.
