Doug your explanation does make sense and it's correct too I believe -- in theory. But I still don't like 'em. Plenty of one-key release setups use all right-hand threads, and work just fine -- the cap doesn't loosen, in practice.

I get a little testy (OK a little too testy) when our favorite manufacturers go away from established standards, for no good reason. Campy stuck people with a crank that they couldn't use the standard, ubiquitous remover on. They did sell a left-hand threaded version of the regular remover tool, acknowledging that not everyone will always use one-key release. Good luck if you ever need one of those tools though, they're pretty hard to come by (I think - not that I've tried lately. I already have one, just 'cuz I'm a tool fetishist.)

Every bike shop in the world has a remover for the right-hand 22mm thread.

Just another good reason for the CR cutoff being before C-Record, in my opinion.
