That's the reason Alfred L's record wasn't recognized by the Cycling Union.
Supposedly Al was towed up to a certain speed before he could pedal it on
his own.
The International Cycling Union only recognized a speed record if done under
your own power.
So, even though we have the record speeds advertised, I think they have
several classifications.
To my understanding, there were maybe 4 or 5 of Al's bikes around. Schwinn
Museum, Martin's shop, Montrose Bike and some I don't know of.
When Meiffret of France did his record runs, he was said to have had a small
bible on a chain under his jersey, and have had a priest give him some sort
of last rites before he started.
