Richard, I can answer a couple of your questions - based on personal experience - but will have the other answers to other list members. So, "on with the show"... By 1981, Simplex certainly was making dropouts with Campagnolo threading. In fact, 1981 is not really "early" as far as these things are concerned. More importantly, Peugeot was building frames with those threaded dropouts, irrespective of what derailleur would be mounted on the frame. My own Peugeot had the threaded dropout and the Simplex derailleur was mounted in the usual manner. Perhaps the nut that goes on the inside of the dropout is a little different for this type of installation? (But, if I recall correctly, it wasn't.) When the Simplex changer finally wore out, I mounted a Campagnolo Athena unit without making any modifications to the frame. From what I've seen, by 1981, neither Peugeot nor Simplex were particularly consistent about this sort of thing. Cheers, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (USA)
