I mounted my Campy rear derailleur onto the dropout ear and noticed a tiny bit of play between the derailleur body and the drop out ear. I couldn't imagine putting a washer between the two mating surfaces and still getting the thing to free pivot, so I thought a bit and came up with an aluminum Coke can shim cut in the shape of a washer. The play was taken up, it was cheap, reversible and easy. Did I invent something new to bike lore or is this just a rip off from the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance where a can is used to shim the valves?
