I've used it on cars, motorcycles and all other things mechaical for decades. It's a bit messier than grease, so I don't know anout seatposts. However, I don't think bike applications are as severe and corrosion prone as automotive, so grease will do. (I've always used it on car wheel nuts, contrary to what GM mechanics recommend, which I suppose parallels greasing BB spindle flats.)
