As I was looking at the new stuff last evening at a local bike shop, the thought forced its way through all the glitz and glitter that this stuff just looks flimsy and, well, fake.

Uhhh, mebbe you shoulda thrown a leg over some of that "new stuff" and taken it out for a spin. Like, see what it *rides* like.... I mean, isn't that why we ride the bike-----the thrill of being on 2 wheels? I've a collexion of steel bikes that I love, but I can't deny the appeal of having a sub-19# machine under me either. I resisted brifters until about a yr. ago, but having tried them they have transformed my riding style, allowing me to ride more aggresively and efficiently than I had for the previous 30 yrs. w. downtube shifters.
