Subject: [CR]Found...Oscar Egg in the hot, dry desert

I answered a craigslist ad for an off-list bike, and when I responded that my tastes ran more to '60's and '70's bikes, he asked if I had any interest in this bike...I drove 50 miles north, he drove 50 miles south, and we made the deal. He had purchased the bike in a thrift store and just wanted to make a few bucks for his trouble.

Soubitez lights, CLB brakes, Solida crankset, Atom hubs, Samir Saminox chrome 650B rims, Michelin tires (look to be original) with older valve stems that look like presta, but the center unscrews and is removed to add air. Cool pump with hose that pulls out and attaches. Very funky bell. Simplex der's. The rubber (plastic?) handlebar wraps look to be original. The wheels spin, the chain needs to be cleaned and the headset is a little stiff, but it appears to be a bike that was purchased, ridden around the block a few times, and then hung in a garage out here in the desert for a few decades. I removed a chain guard that looks to have been added later, otherwise, the bike is just as I found it. Since the pics were taken, I polished it up a bit with a clean cotton rag. I'm considering just leaving it alone, mattress saddle and all. Once I start messing with a bike, I sometimes have difficulty knowing where to stop.

File this bike 'as found'.

I don't know much about this bike other than what I could find in the CR archives and some other googled sites. I welcome any comments.
