A few years ago, I had a custom Arthur Caygill Artisan frame bulit by Ric hard Kent, Caygill's custom framebuilder, including brazeons for Mafac CP's .  My recollection is he adapted canti bosses rather than hunting down or iginal Mafac bosses.  But I'm not positive of that, I only know I had no problem installing the brakes.  Is Richard still building for Caygill?  How far from London is the Caygill operation?

i have a frame to which i was hoping to have added some brazed on pivots fo r mafac centre pulls. centre pulls for age appropriate around town riderbility. brazed on because i have been seduced by the look of the things. my local frame builder, barry witcomb, being of the old school was vaguely aware that the french had done this but knows no more. he's reluctant because the frame in question has pencil stays. he had initially thought i was talking about cantilevers and i could see that the lower position of those pivots could distort the stays, but i would have thought the centre pull pi vots would be close enough to the brake bridge that this wouldn't be a problem. he was also concerned that the brazing heat would distort the very narrow section stays. i would have thought that the pivots could be silver soldere d into place. perhaps he just doesn't want the hassle.

does anyone have any ideas?

also i'm looking for a source for the actual braze on. how different are they from canti studs?

thanks,
