Well we all now how nice it is to finish off our pet vintage bikes to perfection with those details such as the correct bar end plugs..and of course the correct "bidon".
Good bidons are few and far between, and even tacky scratched ones from the 60s have fetched good and often unbelivable prices in 2007.
But If I seriously wanted an authentic bidon for my authentic 1936 Alcyon Tour de France or more difficult still, my 1935 AUTOMOTO, just where would I look?
Well...it appears that I could start by looking on French Ebay where at the moment there is what is claimed to be an authentic metal bidon, bearing the name of a product of which I have never heard. But it really does look to be the real deal and judging by the enthusiastic bidding other Ebayers ajudge it to be so.
Item 250200403441 - Bidon 1935, started out a 5 euros, and now, thirteen bids later has reached 300 euros.
Is this a pointer to even higher prices in 2008 as more far eastern bidders join the fray?
