Bruce, you might want to also check with your local police department to get their opinion on it. Many police dept's these days have a cyber crime section/unit. I use eBay a lot but I've never had the threatening experience you're having (though I think some I've encountered are capable of it...).
Unless he lives in your same town, then I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it unless the police have the grounds to step in. Likely the seller is a wacko looking for his next victim to be wacky with and will forget about you soon.
