Not at all. It's just exercising common courtesy, like letting someone in ahead of you in traffic instead of trying to beat them. If the item up for auction is something that comes up fairly often, why fight over it and drive up the price for that one sale? Of course, if it's some rare piece that only comes up once in a blue moon, it's every man for himself.
