So, let me see if I understand this correctly... Campania was a Japanese made frame set and you folks assembled the bikes in the USA from separate parts?? The frames were from one source or various? I didn't know there was a Pro model, do you recall it's specs (components)?
Do you think we might get some pics of that Pro that you referred to & then maybe I can make a CR page to recall this brand?

I worked at Campania for about a year and one-half back in the day 1972-1973 in the midst of the Bike Boom.
I am real glad I never took LLoyd up on his offer to hire me full time and make bicycles my carreer.
The bikes were almost fully assembled and only required installing pedals and handlebars when received at the L.B.S.. We put the bikes together and even adjusted the derailleurs and brakes. The warehouse was located off of Victory Blvd in Van Nuys on Hayvenhurst Ave in the San Fernando Valley.
Oh, back to Lloyd Doctor, he and H.C. McIver (his grandfathers name) the name of the company, became a victim of the Bike Bust. He relocated to Seattle and worked for Raliegh for awhile.
I cycled to work the 25 miles one way to work each Saturday and School breaks from Culver City (West Los Angeles) to Van Nuys over Sepulveda Pass. Not a difficult ride but when you are 15 years old it seemed a long way.
The Campania Professional was my first sew-up bike and I rode it everywhere in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Your first "good bike" seems like your first serious girl friend, the memories always are better then the reality...
I recently traded a friend for another Campania Professional and it now seems a bit heavy but has steeper head angle and handles crisply.
I sold the original bike to buy a Whitcomb that had the most gorgeous wrap around seat stays, it was imported for an early 1970's L.A. bike show to show off Barrie Whitcombs skills. I still have that bike and it has been restored by Ed Litton after touring with it over 50,000 miles.
(The Doctor's have been long time family friends and I still touch base every couple years. Of course that is how I got the job in the first place as Lloyd was a cousin to my sister's boyfriend at the time.)

As many already know, there will be a Memorial Service for Sheldon this coming Sunday, March 2 at 1:30pm. It will be at the First Unitarian Society of Newton, across the street from Harris Cyclery.

Prior to the service there will be a memorial ride starting and ending at the shop:
Meet at 10:45 AM in the parking lot behind Harris Cyclery for an informal memorial ride before the service. Departure will be at 11:00. Distance: approximately 25 miles, pace slow to moderate. The ride will go by way of Weston to Water Row in Sudbury (water level permitting!), one of Sheldon's favorite places to ride, and will return by way of Lincoln.
Fixed gears, hub gears, whatever you've got, are all welcome.

I've always assumed you need to knock off about 10mm (the typical length of the original threads) but maybe I'm wrong. That sure would be great, because I have a small pile of "vintage" DTs that are just not quite right for some wheels I might want to build. A mm here and 2 mm there and I might be in business.

First, it struck me how lucky we are to have Hilary as a reseller of vintage lightweight bicycle merchandise! I know, I know, some of the boys get upset when he buys goods and then resells them for a profit. But I do that everyday myself to feed my family, just new stuff vs used, so...
But look at this list of goodies he selling now. They are items, and very excellent & illustrative pics, of items I have never seen before and would likely have never seen at all had it now been for Hilary being in this business! Hooray!
Now; subject in hand, this Dave Davey frame;? Very interesting. What appear at first cursory glance to be Nervex Pro lugs are not that at all. Maybe Norris recognizes this variation of style with those little swallow tail points? Very unusual and unknown to me at least... What about those vertical dropouts? What are those? In any case, except for the extremely sloppy (redone by an amateur?) lug lining, this is a really neatly done and special frame set...

The frame selection is very international this week - stars for me being the 1975 Moser Special which if it had a two or three cm longer top tube I would kept for myself - this is not a Francesco Moser built built frame but a Cicli Moser - there is some info in the archives on this company, a real cracker of a Dave Davey built in the Wally Green workshop with many typical Wally Green details such as the round forks and faux twin-plate crown, an early Peugeot PX10 or is it a late PLX10? And a rather splendid Belgian Paganini frame probably built in Italy... And there's a really nice early Argos frame with clearances for mudgards made here in Bristol.?

Amongst the smaller items several stand out - the 60s Brooks Pro saddle, the NOS Sturmey wingnuts, the very rare BSA rear derailleur from c1951, a couple of pairs of really nice 30s bars and a swan neck stem. The Duegi touring shoes are gorgeous and just take a look at the Raleigh bike price card from 50s - that is really rather special. And remembering the discussion on the list about obscure Campag parts I have discovered a tool from the Campy 50th Anniversary groupset which I suppose cannot be really that rare as I presume it was supplied with the groupset, a pin tool I think for the special dustcaps. Finally don't forget Graham Watson's classic book documenting the European Classics in pics and words.? ?
