Yes, once I got to a real computer and zoomed in some, I noted many of the things you're mentioning here (*and* I noticed the claim in their listing). The places where there *is* cage wear do look like aluminum (it was those rusty-looking kick-tabs that got me, at first). The other set I've seen of these aluminum ones were worn to "senza dente" (would that be how you'd say "without teeth" in Italian?).

This would make them very rare...the Speedplay Pedal Museum site says 1958 for this version (and they depict another very nice pair). I wonder how many of this vintage were steel and how many were alloy? Were there different part numbers or other designation?

Very cool pieces, at any rate....and worth quite a lot to somebody, obviously.

Those cages don't look anything like chromed steel to me in the photos, and I doubt that- given the pedals apparent excellent condition- that the chrome's gone all dull. Chrome doesn't really turn matte like that anyway over age, it gets pinprick rust spots or peels.

Then there's this bit from the description: "All the *aluminium* teeth remain sharp with virtually no wear at all."
