Thanks for all the ideas, everyone. We're going w/ this beautiful '70s Tr ek (Campy, Cinelli, Wrights, etc) from Dale Brown at Cycles de Oro, in Greensboro, NC. They're going to swap out the rubber for some fatter Panaracer Pasela TGs. Thanks, Dale! And thanks to NitroBob for his L'Eroi ca knowledge and experience.

From: jemk7@hotmail.com To: classicrendezvous@bikelist.org Subject: Seeking 62-63cm vintage steel sports tourer or similar for L'Eroic a Date: Sat, 26 Jul 2008 03:30:30 +0000
Howdy,
My first post. Bradley at American Cyclery in SanFran suggested I hit up th e CR folks for aid in my quest. I'd be much obliged.
First, about me: I'm an editor/writer from Memphis currently living in Sa nta Fe. My first non-BMX was a mid-'80s Raleigh. I once owned an Evel Kniev el model "moto" bicycle. I have a (CR-illegal? hey, it's lugged steel) '8 8 Trek 520 (daily commuter, distance ride) and a (just under the CR wire! ) '82 Schwinn Traveler (which I acquired gratis set up as a single-speed, stuck a B17 and Soma Noah's Arc bars on, and now use as my gadabout). I lust after a lot of vintage bikes, too numerous to mention, but two not able KOF rides I constantly ogle are the Hampsten / Tournesol Audax 700c an d the Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen 650b.
Now, the quest: I'm sending a writer to L'Eroica (www.eroica.it/eroicae.h tm) in October, and he needs a fitting (double entendre intended) vintage bike. He wanted American steel, so I've been looking for a '60s-'70s Sch winn Paramount touring model to no avail. That would be cool, but now we just need to broaden and find some vintage steel that fits him and has clas sic geometry. We're doing a French fit, and he's a big guy, so...
He's in the Tallahassee, Gainesville, Jacksonville, FL, area. No bi g budget here; he's buying the bike to keep and enjoy. So we're looking t o pay a fair price for something in good shape that's ready to roll. He nee ds to get to training on the bike he'll ride.
Any help is very appreciated. Any advice on what to look for as well. So...
Wanted: Good-condition, ready-to-ride 62-63cm lugged steel w/ period/orig inal components, randonee bar (46cm ideal) a plus, rims able to accept at least 28cm a plus. In central FL best, but anyone willing to ship in N orth America, just fine.
Thanks, and apologies if I forgot to do something vis a vis The Rules.
