I vaguely recall having seen a threaded headset with a topnut the upper part of which could be clamped to the quill stem itself by tightening a small draw bolt, stabilizing the stem. I have managed to find several locking topnuts that clamp to the steerer alone -- e.g., the Onza Mongo II and the Wheels Manufacturing Growler Headlock -- but they aren't what I remember seeing. I'm stretching my recollection to the limits, but I want to say that what I saw was silver, nicely rounded and polished, possibly French or Italian, and on the pricey side. I also think it may have been mentioned as an aside by someone on this list. (Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it in the CR archives or in my own email archives.)
Does anyone know of a headset or locking/clamping/cinching topnut that matches my recollection? If so, I'd be grateful if you would email me a name or a link. (If you post, please also copy me offlist; I have CR delivery suspended for the time being.)
