Is the fixed cup painted? It's hard to tell in the teeny tiny photos. I can't believe buyers are satisfied with the little photos you frequently see on ebay auctions even for expensive items like this. Ebay must make it really difficult to post up decent photos. I am impressed though how well and crisply the detail rough casting texture and number stampings show through the paint. It looks so much better thin that way if the workmanship under the paint is good.

The important part is that the paint is laid on thin enough to emphasize the beautiful workmanship. Just look at the filing of the lugs and filleting on the bottom bracket. Admirably, no attempt was made to bodge-up an Herse hand-painted logo on the downtube.
